The most timely event in the ancient world was the anointing of the Messiah during the 15th year of Tiberius Caesar. At that time, Joshua of Nazareth became the Messiah, or "Anointed One," when the Holy Spirit descended on him like a DOVE.

 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are my beloved Son; in you I am well pleased” (Saint Luke 3:22).

In Greek, Messiah is translated as Christós, Christ in English, Christ in French, Cristo in Spanish, Cristo in Italian, etc., etc., etc.

Pope Gregory first proposed that the rooster be adopted as a visual aid to commemorate Peter's denial of Christ! Pope Gregory XIII was the infamous St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre pontiff and the Gregorian calendar is named after him!
