Biography of Benedict Fitzpatrick

James Benedict Ossory Fitzpatrick was born in Egremont, England, Feb. 4, 1881, and went to meet his Maker on Feb. 4, 1964. His family was descended from the MacGiollapatraics of Ossory - the name was translated to Fitzpatrick by decree of Henry VIII. in 1537. Studied at Ushaw College, Durham, 7 years. Studied at the Universities of London and Bonn. LL.D., Holy Cross College, Worchester Mass., 1929. Traveled, studied and taught languages in various European countries. 6 years correspondent and contributing editor London and Continental journals, served on staffs of Daily Mail (London. Eng.). Illustrated London News, New York Herald (Paris, France), etc. Wrote several volumes on industrial and technical subjects published in London. Honored by the Italian government for drilling army officers and Guardia Civile in English speech. Author: Ireland and the Making of Britain. 1921; .The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, 1925; Ireland and the Foundations of Europe, 1927; (part author) History of New York State (4 vols.), 1927; Donjon of Demons, 1930: Frail Anne Boleyn and her Fateful Loves with Henry VIII., 1931, A Literatus in Wonderland: An Expostulation,1942. Contributed  to encyclopedias, magazines, and historical works. Has written several vols. on different periods and regions of America including a History of the Bronx and its People, 1609-1927.
