Spies Versus Scouts!!

So they watched him (Joshua of Nazareth), and sent spies (Gk. en-kä-the-tos, Lat. insidiatores) who pretended to be righteous, that they might seize on his words, in order to deliver him to the power and the authority of the governor. (Luke 20:20).

The Greek word enkäthetos is translated as insidiatores in the Latin Vulgate Version. This is the origin of the English word insidious which means occult, deceiving, treacherous, evil, cunning, and perfidious.

Many pernicious people actually quote the Holy Bible to condone spying. The pro-slavery people of the 19th century often quoted Scripture to countenance that diabolical practice....Satan himself often quotes Scripture to deceive the unwary.

There is a very big difference between SPIES and SCOUTS. Scouts have been used by armies for thousands of years and are protected by the Geneva Convention.

During warfare, spies are not protected by the Geneva Convention and can be shot if captured.

In Numbers Chapter 13, JEHOVAH told Moses to send 12 men to SEARCH or SCOUT the land of Canaan. Here is that verse in the English language King James Version:

And JEHOVAH spoke unto Moses, saying, Send thou men, that they may search (Hebrew tür). the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them (Numbers 13:2).

The King James translators very conveniently changed SEARCH to SPY just 15 verses later:

And Moses sent them to spy out (Hebrew tür) the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain. (Numbers 13:17).

The pro-spying translators didn't dare have JEHOVAH tell Moses to send spies . . . but they were not afraid to have Moses send spies a few verses later.

Joshua sent out SCOUTS . . . not SPIES!!

In the famous story of the walls of Jericho falling down, Joshua the son of Nun sent 2 scouts secretly into the city on a mission of mercy to save a family from destruction. Joshua is a type of the Messiah who came into this Satan occupied world incognito to save sinners.

And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to SEARCH secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there. (Joshua 2:1).

Here is the verse from the English version:

And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there. (Joshua 2:1).

In this verse, the word SPY is the Hebrew RÄGAL instead of TÜR. The Masoretes changed that word just like they changed the name JEHOVAH to Adonai 300 times.

Joshua would not have told the men to go secretly if they were real spies because secrecy is the stock-in-trade of spies. Also, it takes a long time to train a spy in all the arts of dissimulation and deception so these men were scouts or explorers who were told to go secretly into Jericho because Jericho was under lockdown.

Imagine the astonishment of the 2 scouts when they found a believer in JEHOVAH in a BROTHEL. The Messiah came to save sinners . . . and undoubtedly the people of the doomed city of Jericho saw themselves as much better than Rahab!

When Saint Paul was writing the Book of Hebrews he referred to this story . . . but he did not call the 2 men spies:

By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the scouts (Gk. kä-tä-sko-pos, Lat. exploratores) with peace (Hebrews 11:31).

Here is that same verse from the Latin Vulgate Version:

fide Raab meretrix non periit cum incredulis excipiens exploratores cum pace. (Hebrews 11:31).

Joshua the son of Nun sent out scouts or explorers . . . not spies....The Holy Bible does not contradict itself!

Joseph called his brothers despicable spies!!

Spying was a despicable business 3,700 years ago, and it is much more despicable today. About 3,700 years ago there was a universal famine, and thanks to Joseph, Egypt was the only country with grain.

Joseph–a type of the Messiah–was ruler in Egypt when his brothers came down from Canaan to buy grain. Joseph accused his brothers of the worst crime imaginable at that time: he called them SPIES:

And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and said unto them, Ye are spies (Hebrew rägal); to see the nakedness of the land ye are come (Genesis 42:9).

Joseph's brothers denied that they were spies because they told him that they were HONEST men:

And they said unto him, No, my lord, but to buy food are thy servants come. We are all one man's sons; we are HONEST men, thy servants are no spies (Hebrew rägal) (Genesis 42:10-11).

The Latin Vulgate omits spies altogether and has Joseph calling his brothers explorers:

hoc est ait quod locutus sum exploratores estis (Genesis 42:14, Latin Vulgate Version).

Every other place where the English word spy appears in the Old Covenant the word should be scout or explorer!

For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light. (Luke 8:17).
